Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is Japanese in origin, meaning Rei - "universal" and Ki - "life force energy", the same as Chi (Chinese) and Prana (Indian). Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive, hands-on healing technique for use on yourself or, with others. Reiki channels the energy to heal and harmonise all aspects of the person including body, mind, emotions and spirit. It can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth.

Many of our teachers at Jungle Way are Reiki Masters and offer introductory to advanced Reiki Healing courses during their retreats. Check out our courses page to see whether we currently have a course including reiki.

Reiki Levels

There are three main levels of Reiki, each involving teacher initiation :

Reiki 1 is based on the attunement that opens you up to the Reiki energy. Once this pathway is established you are able to channel Reiki for the rest of your life using the energy for growth, self-development and healing for yourself, your family and your friends.
Once you have been attuned, Reiki will flow through your hands whenever you touch with the intention of healing or helping. Once you have received the first-degree attunements, you will have this ability for life.
Reiki can safely be used in combination with orthodox medical care and other complementary therapies.
It combines well with many alternative therapies, including Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Kinesiology and Counseling, and will increase their effectiveness and decrease the time required to see positive change.

At Level One (Shoden), you will receive four initiations and be introduced to the Usui Five Principles which act as guidelines for the work you do on yourself to prepare as a practitioner and to help your understanding of the healing process. You are also taught set hand positions which are helpful for a beginner and you are given time to practice on others.

Reiki History

Reiki originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. Tibetan monks had mastered the science or art of tapping the Universal Life Force Energy for man’s use in healing and self-transformation to eventually lead to spiritual enlightenment. This technique however was only taught to a selected and disciplined few.
Dr Mikao Usui, a theological scholar and teacher, who in the mid 1800’s undertook an extensive study of the healings of history’s greatest spiritual leaders, reintroduced Reiki.
In the later 1970’s, Reiki reached the western world through Mrs. Hawayo Takata. Since then, tens of thousands of people have received Reiki worldwide.

Reiki Training

Reiki is a safe, simple, natural and easy-to-learn healing technique.
Once your body has been attuned to connect to and to receive this wonderful healing technique, you have Reiki for life.
The wonderful Usui System of Reiki healing is a hands-on healing technique that uses Universal Life Energy. The Reiki healing energy is channeled through the practitioner’s hands for treatment of others: humans, animals, plants and food.
It is a safe, simple, natural and easy-to-learn technique. It only requires a Reiki Master who is willing to harmonize your body to connect to and receive the Reiki healing energy.
Oral Tradition is the energetic transfer and teaches through direct contact and presence of the Reiki Master.
This energetic transfer happens through teaching the form of treatments, initiations, passing on the principles, telling the history, answering questions, and truly being with the students in the class. The master communicates the essence and the integrity of the System and performs the initiations necessary to open the Reiki channel in the student.
